I'll break the ice with a bit of humor. As an art major, I find the following to be a valid subject of inquiry. In university scheduling, Art Studio is abbreviated as ARTS. Art History is ARTH. Media Arts is MART. So, why doesn't the Fine Arts department have an abbreviation? Though, I'd have to pitty anyone working in what is admittedly the FART department. On the other hand, I'm sure that it would make advisement and scheduling much more interesting, at least for the students.
Speaking of advising, I'll add the College Tip of the Day: It's always a good idea to second-guess your advisors, especially at large universities. It may not be that your advisor is incompetent (I'll let you decide), but they are busy with thousands of students' issues. Come to advisement with at least some kind of idea about the required courses for graduation from the school and your major, and even minor. At any time, these can be subject to change. I know...it's a pain in the keister. But it may save you having to go an extra year just to make up requirements.
As to my readings for art history on Michelangelo...cowabunga!
